Rollercoaster Tycoon 2

PC review by Chris Lamanna - Sunday 27th April 2003

In the year 2000, a young man named Chris Sawyer said to himself, "There should be a game where you get to build and manage your own theme park." Well, that has gotten him a long way. The release of RCT 1 was one of the biggest simulation game surprises ever. It even put The Sims series to shame. It's back, and it's better than ever. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 beats any theme park sim, and you will see why.

The graphics of this game are none of the average. With a whole theme park of rides and people all moving around at the same time, you would think the graphics are sketchy and slow. Well, it's the exact opposite. These graphics are clean and crisp. The best part of the graphics of course is the rollercoasters. You will be amazed when you watch the rollercoasters run in real time right before your eyes. The people in the game are advanced stick figures, but they act like any other person in a theme park.

The gameplay in RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is absolutely superb. The main part of the gameplay relies on two main things. You and your customers. Every person that enters your park is different in all ways. Some of different ages, some have more money, some can't take high intensity rides, and some even have the tendency to go to the bathroom every five minutes. This all depends how you set up the park. If all of your rides are high intensity, and the majority of your customers can't handle it, you will not get many people on the ride. And if you boost the prices, people will lose money quicker and will have to leave quicker. Basically, every move you make affects the people in your park. It's exactly how a sim should work. The controls and menus are easy to work. The 70 page manual is very helpful for the first time player.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 has a wider variety of gameplay choices for you. About 90 scenarios are available to play, featuring parks and rides from Six Flags' across the US. This is amazing compared to the 30 scenarios in RCT 1.

Sims are playable forever and ever. You will never, ever get bored, especially with this game. You can go to the website and participate in contests and exchange rides with other owners. What else more could you ask for, get playing already!
