Spore finally gets a release date

EA has confirmed that latest Maxis title Spore will be released for PC, Mac, DS and mobile phones on 5th September in Europe, following two days later in the US on 7th September.

Apparently this is because Europe is a “priority” for EA and we make up “about sixty percent or more of [their] PC business”, said Maxis’ Patrick Beuchner speaking to Eurogamer recently.

In Spore you will take the part of a simplistic organism and you will direct the creature’s evolution and development, right through to social beginnings, civilisation, and beyond, to the stars. It has been in development since around 1971 and is coming from the studio who brought us SimCity and The Sims, and is being helmed by industry legend Will Wright. In a press statement he said:

“We’re in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year”

Hopefully the game will meet the release date later this year, and live up to its immense potential. Definitely one to watch.
