Don’t expect Black 2 any time soon

Speaking to D-Pad magazine, Criterion Games designer Craig Sullivan has stated that they are neither making nor intend to make a sequel to hit 2006 First Person Shooter Black.

Released in in early 2006, Black was the visually impressive debut FPS from the UK studio famed for the Burnout series. It sold well over a million copies worldwide, and it was reported toward the end of that year that development on the sequel was underway, however Craig Sullivan has seemingly put these rumours to bed:

“Sorry to disappoint you, but as we’ve mentioned many times on our podcast we’re not looking at making another Black game any time soon.

Although the rumours never seem to go away and we still get a lot of letters from fans, we’re honestly not working on that game at the moment. I doubt the rumours will go away though.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the game won’t appear at a future date, but perhaps for the moment EA feels the FPS market is too competitive and too uncertain, wearas to focus Criterion’s efforts on more Burnout titles is basically a licence to print money.

We had mixed feelings of the game here at Thunderbolt Towers, as you can see from our PS2 and Xbox reviews. Do you want to see a sequel? Let us know what you think in the forum.
