The Guardian - Brain training? Think again, says study

    No real surprises there then.

I did a Google search on this and a ton of UK links came up. It sounds like Nintendo over hyped it over there or something cause I hardly see mention of it here. I dont think Kidman did a advert here either.

I've played those brain games to death, and I'm still a retard.

Smug Hiroshima bastard, or whatever his name is...oh yeah Kawashima.

See it helped me a bit.But not enough to make me so super brainy that I'll end up putting off hot women and end up playing World of Warcraft whilst messaging my super fat American girlfriend.

I really liked Brain Training, but I lost all interest after four days or so, no staying power at all - much like the similar Buzz game.

    Interesting news though, Dr. Lied!

I would never play a Brain Training game and I can't really see why other people 'play' them, it's homework on a disc as far as I'm concerned. I hate doing maths, I can never be bothered to even try to work out sums, let alone working them out for entertainment.

I played them and I thought it was kinda interesting. I dont see how it would help you get smarter at all. The game is just reaction time and how fast you can solve a puzzle you are not actually learning a thing.

Seeing as these brain trainers feature crosswords, the study is redundant.

I played on it on my sister's DS a few times, completely pointless I reckon. Just a bunch of key stage 2 maths.

I had a copy of Big Brain Academy at one point and I thought that it wasn't too bad. In my opinion it had like a repetitive addiction factor to it kind of like the Tetris and Harvest Moon games, its not so much a fun game (IQ Test) but theres something about it that can't be described but brings you back to playing it over and over.
Wheither they actually make you less retarded or not though is anyones guess but with the amount of people that have bought a copy and then bought atleast one of the millions of spin offs which are exactly the same game (pretty much) I would guess they don't do crap apart from show who has sucker tattooed on their heads with invisible ink.
