I was thinking, wouldn't it be 'neat' if we could get some kind of comments page below every review/preview/feature/news story etc? I know there's the issue of spam control but i really don't think it'd be a problem, there's always someone browsing the site. Maybe have some kind of notification on the forum or in everyone's emails when someone has left a comment, so that it stops people from spamming old reviews? I'm not sure how much work would be required to do this but i reckon the main site would get more visitors and possibly get these people to join the forums, too.

And just one more thing. What are people's opinions on the score at the end of the review? I reckon it would look nicer if it was just a number instead of letters.

Sorry if this sounds like i'm complaining a lot, lol. Just throwing some ideas out there. So what do you guys think?

Yeah I think a few of us mentioned this a while ago, I can't remember why it wasn't implemented (if it just couldn't be or if we decided on something else).

Yeah, they'd have to be moderated in that we see them before they're posted live on the site.

I like the score being spelled out tbh, looks more professional.

Yeah, comments has been brought up before, and I'd like to see it implemented- just to see if it'd work well.

Yeah, this is an old issue, but one that is still relevant. If we added comments, then ideally we would tie it in to the forum, so you comment with your forum ID. However, doing that its technically complicated and could be a while off. Not that it's impossible, but it would take me a few weeks to figure it out and code it!

With the score, using words is a design choice and one that no-one else uses. Edge Magazine used to, but now they're on numbers. I think it looks kinda cool though.

I think comments at the end of the articles would look especially good now considering the bloggy look of the site.

So the main technical and design issues would involve me:

Adding a login page to the main site.
Making sure that the site manages the sessions so that you stay logged in.
Coding a comment addition box.
Working out how this would work in the database; linking comments to articles.
Adding a module to the CMS to allow moderation.

Just to throw my two-pence worth in and add that I too would like to see comments on each review/preview/feature, and that I like the review score as a number.

I think the review score should stay as a word, looks far more professional.

I think a number on its own would look best, like in EDGE.

Or if it's going to stay as a letter, maybe not as big. Just a simple "nine" for example at the end in the same way Edge have their number at the end (like Frey said). Puts more importance on the actual review text than the number at the end of the review.

I'd like to chime in and say that I'd love to see comments implemented. As a review writer, it's easy to become detached from your readers and sort of stay in your own little reviewing world; so it'd be nice to see what people have to say after reading your article. Of course, we'd have to be careful not to get into arguments with people who have commented. It'd be tempting to sign in and respond to someone who has commented on your own review, but getting sucked into a shouting match would be pretty unproffessional.

Oh, and I like the review score being spelled out. ;)

The spelled-out review score really stands out. I like that a lot. As far as comments go... I'm unsure. As long as it wouldn't become critiques of our writing it would be fine. That sort of thing should remain on the boards and I don't want people to disregard any of our reviews because someone comes and picks apart our opinions. If it works and remains proffessional, I'm all for it.
