I just bought 512 MB DDR RAM for a shockingly low price of about £37!

I currently have 256MB 266MHz PC2100 RAM, and I'm adding 512MB 266MHz PC2100 RAM to it, which makes 768MB 8)

Do I just plug it into the slot when I get it or what? Do I need to run a program to install it?

Man i done the A+ course on computers, electronics and networks and installing ram is actually quite simple these days. I wont go into explaining all the stuff, i will just give u a good website to visit that shows you everything.

http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/howto/story/0,24330,2001321,00.html

He tells you exactky wot to do, and i have done it and it is easy as pie. In the article he tells u to ground yourself once, but do it 3 times before u touch the RAM and also do NOT touch any of the electronics (chips etc etc....) as your static electricity will fry the buggers.

And no, u dont need any software as computers will always search for new hardware when they start up, well they do for RAM anyway,

Good luck man,

Looks like The King explained it all ok.
Just ground your self on the bare metal of a radiator then just plug it in to the slot next to where the original is.
If you feel daring swap the ram over so the larger stick is in the first slot.Dunno if it helps but thats what I would do.
It will only go in one way round so make sure the notch on the ram is lined up with the slot.
And try not to flex the mainboard to much.

Yeah man, reefer has summed up the points i left out. You can also ground yourself on the metal case of your PC.

It doesnt matter which way the RAM goes in. Like reefer also said make sure u have everything lined up before hand. Like the notches on the side of the RAM. Also the RAM u have now in your computer is held down by wee clips on the side of the board. I doont believe they arew springy so make sure they are in the open position before trying to slot in your new RAMOnce they clip in you are ready to go!,

Good Luck man, keep us informed,

King :P
