It stems from the old `command line` days and more specifically `Terminal` days anyone who's heard of a WYSE terminal will know what I mean.

When scolling through text page after page the cursor would basically stay visible on the screen. With scroll lock on the cursor would be locked in place and no amount of pageup/down would auto move the cursor.

For example, this would be of most use in finding a piece of text to refresh your memory without losing your current place in editing a document.

Under Windows however its pretty much redundant and most ppl I know map it ingame to do something useful in game.

Good explanation. What about 'SysRq', 'Pause' and 'Break'??? Is 'Break' just like the one you can use in Word?

Im not sure what Sys Rq is exactly, but pause break are again legacy keys, this time though for pausing or breaking out of software

As with Scroll Lock these keys are largely unused these days

Thanks.
But I tried it and the cursor still moved with it on.
