View Full Version : What spec is your fastest PC?
We have 4 PCs at home on a network, but only one of them is faster than 250MHz :( Our fastest one is:
1400MHz
20GB HD
256MB RAM
Geforce 2
why do you need 4 pcs?
i've got one bad one at home and i rarely turn it on, i sit in front of PCs for a living...
1 for me, 1 each for my parents and 1 laptop.
My one is 166MHz :( and I only really use it for recieving and sending email.
My dad's one is 233MHz
My mum's one is 1400MHz :D , but I can't play games on it because she uses it for work (works at home, runs PBSS (http://www.pbss-uk.com))
The laptop is 133MHz and my dad 'acquired' it from work
All networked up with broadband
I've gotta...
Athlon 1600xp
512mb sdram (+another 512 in the next week)
60gb HD
GeForce 2Ti
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
BUT a ****ty f'n 56k modem!!!
I hate BT and NTL

My computer which I spent all my savings on is:
AMD Duron 1300Mhz
256 DDR RAM
30Gb HDD
Radeon 8500LE 128Mb DDR
but with lame AOL dialup
When I got this it was better than most of my friends, now it is half the speed of theirs. I'm pretty sure they got new ones just cause i did.

Upgraded my PC on friday.
AMD 2200XP (1800mhz)
Gigabyte GA-7VAX mainboard
512 MB DDR PC2700
Geforce 4 Ti 4200(128 MB DDR)
Hercules muse 5.1 DVD
BTopenworld 512 ADSL
Now I just need to pay for it :D
We've just ordered two of these, one of which I will have: :D
Pentium 4 2GHz
256 RAM
40GB HD
XP Pro
That's what Thunderbolt will be managed on soon...
OK, the ones in my previous post were discontinued, so we didn't get them. But, we've ordered some more and they're better anyway:
P4 2.53GHz
256 MB RAM
60GB HD
CD RW
XP Pro
:afro: 8) :afro:

I now use a
P4 2.66gig.
512mb ram
TFT screen
80gig hard drive
geforce 4 ti4400 128mb grfx
DVD
CD-RW
1mb Blueyonder broadband connection
Basically I bought this just before Christmas because I was fed up with the kids arguing over the one PC they had between them so I upgraded mine to this, the older boy (7) got my 1 gig machine and then the younger one (3) got the Cyrix 333 machine.
All quiet in the computer room now - all I can hear is the whirr of fans and the blasting of Reefer and Jaz on Battlefield 1942. :-).
I spent far too much money on my upgrade end of last year, but at least i wont have to do it again for 3 or 4 weeks
Mines now a
P4 2.53ghz
1024mb pc800 rambus
2 x 80gb HDD striped using raid to give me 1 x 160mb
TI4200 GeForce4 128mb
SB Live Value!
and it does kick arse, the good thing about upgrading is everytime i do my games server gets upgraded at the same time :D
thats now a
P3 1ghz
512mb ram but i forget how much hard drive space i have, but it serves Battlefield 1942 well enough for 5 of us to play on.
I'm thinking of upgrading my SB Live Value to an Audigy 2, but not too sure about that yet

I built mine myself so I've got a really weird setup.
AMD ATHLON 1500+ (about 1.3GHZ)
120GB Hard disks ( 1x80GB & 1x40GB)
1024MB DDR Ram 333mhz
Nvidia Gforce 4 Titanium 128MB DDR Graphics card
19" CRT Monitor
5.1 Audigy Sound card
and a partridge in a pear tree!
I really want to upgrade it, but looking at the latest games I don't think that it matters much cos they don't need that kind of spec anyway.
I might just upgrade the processor and maybe stick in another 2048MB of ram just for the shear fun of it
you don't need 2GB RAM, lol
get that processor up to speed (no pun intended)

I intend to, when I get the funds together that is. I'd love to have a 3 GHZ Processor but I don't think that AMD produce one. I'll probably just get a Athlon 2200+ for now.

yeh that sounds like a good idea as the old XP's are very cheap and the brand new ones are not that much better, most games would run on the processor u have but it would be nice just to let them run very smoothly on the best graphics setting :D

I've been looking for a new processor and have found this one "AMD Athlon XP 2700+ *333 FSB* (2.17 GHz) with AMD Heat Sink Fan 108.42". Do you think this is a good price or do you think I should keep looking :?:
go up to 150 quid and you'll get one with a better frontside bus (FSB).

Holy moses!, what is better than a 333 FSB?!.
Hummmmmmmmmmm i still must be in the dark ages, i thought that was the best affordable one
Power Mac G5 has a 1024 FSB. The top Pentium 4s have got 800.

Never liked mac's and I doubt I ever will.
You tend to pay more for spec and from my own experiance they tend to go wrong way too often. Give me a computer that I can strip down to components anyday.
I'm sure alot of people get on fine with mac's but I feel that they are not worth the hassle.
Just a view :|

Alienware machine are the hottest gaming machines around. the case modde cases are to die for just as much as the hardware within them. Granted u would need to sell an organ to afford 1.
The Falcon Northwest customised ones are damn cool as well, even if they are square:
