Developer Interview: Quantum of Solace: The Video Game
After our recent hands on with Quantum of Solace: The Video Game, we had a brief meeting with Co-Design Director at Treyarch, Adam Gascoine. Although very busy, Adam still had time to answer a few of our questions:

Do you feel any extra pressure to deliver on this game, as the Daniel Craig Bond universe is so popular?
Yes. Daniel has transformed the Bond franchise and made the Bond character deep, complex and relevant again. The expectations for a Bond game are always high since GoldenEye, and they are even higher now that the movies are new and reinvigorated.
What was your main aim when creating the Bond world?
Authenticity. Craig’s Bond brings such visceral and real character to the screen that it is essential that the gamer not only feels like Bond, they feel like Daniel Craig’s Bond. The movies are much more authentic now as well, so we wanted to capture that.
Did you ever have any plans to create a game that was not a FPS?
No. Our team strength is in the FPS. We chose to stick to a genre we have a wealth of experience in and expand to a first person / third person hybrid.

Do you feel the COD 4 engine and Bond license is a guarantee for success?
We hope it will guarantee that we are taken seriously as a game first and foremost. The COD 4 engine shows the commitment we have to making a cracking game that happens to be a license.
Are you looking to develop future Bond titles?
Right now we are looking to polish off the final content in the game. We do believe that this is the start of a great new franchise for Activision but only reviews and sales will tell!
How did you enjoy working on this title, compared to other games you have released?
This is the most fun I’ve had on a game. We have a dedicated and disciplined team and it’s been humbling to work with such professionals.

Lastly, what are your favourite games based on a film?
Rambo on the Commodore 64 was fun. Jane Austen’s
Thunderbolt would like to thank Adam very much for his time, as the amount of press he drew towards himself and the game looked hugely overwhelming. Check out our exclusive hands on with Quantum of Solace: The Video Game right here.
