What We’re Playing – December 23rd
The weekend is upon us and it’s time to play some videogames. Here are a few games we’ve been playing away from the office this week. What’s on your agenda? Share what you’re playing!
The PSP is dying. Some would say it died a long time ago and I would be inclined to agree with them. As a fairly avid follower of the PSP I’ve decided to replay some of the doomed portable’s headline titles before I splash out on the PS Vita in the new year, and where better to start than everybody’s favourite rolling yellow globule game – LocoRoco.
There was something so charming, so unique in LocoRoco’s design that made it such an essential title. Heaving your colourful space hoppers from one side of a level to the other would release a cacophony of song and audio mischief the likes of which could melt even the hardest of hearts.
Despite all this digital joviality, I never particularly enjoyed the overall experience. The level design was a little too simplistic and I often found the graphics and audio propping up the shortcomings of the gameplay. Be that as it may, LocoRoco will be fondly remembered by me for the joyous blobs of goo rollicking about the place smiling and laughing and generally being delightfully gorgeous.
While I typically shy away from the idea of yearly updates, occasionally some are more substantial than others. The 2010 edition of this seminal wrestling series once again brings the goods with tons of modes, a streamlined fighting system, and tons of options for creativity. With wrestling games, it’s all about the presentation and create modes, so anybody looking for ways to make all those crazy ideas they’ve been dreaming about into reality will be pleased. It’s so much fun to see your own personal wrestler come to life with their own entrance, taunts, and moveset – with finishers – that can be edited to perfection. Whether you’re looking to recreate classic wrestlers, homages to your favorite game characters, or something completely off-the-wall, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 has you covered.
Seriously, Ghostrider and Iron Man spammers, you guys can kiss my ass. I own you all for free.
From all of us at Thunderbolt, have a safe and happy holiday!
