Treason of Isengard canceled
The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard has been scrapped, according to Vivendi Universal Games. Seattle-based developer Surreal Studios was working on the title for both Xbox and Playstation 2. Vivendi is still supervising the creation of numerous other games based on the universe of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, including The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rings, and Middle-Earth Online.
Treason of Isengard was planned as a third person action-adventure game, with a large array of playable characters and extensive battle sequences. While the game was scheduled for release this November and was already significantly far into development, Vivendi felt that the title was not shaping up as anticipated and “would likely not satisfy the expectations of Tolkien fans.” Vivendi indicated that the cancellation of this game would free up resources to continue work on future Lord of the Rings titles.
