THQ buys Homeworld rights

THQ has recently acquired the rights to the well-received PC strategy series Homeworld. The US publisher bought Homeworld developer Relic Entertainment for around US $10 million in 2004, who have since developed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and the Company of Heroes series for the PC.

It is not specifically known whether THQ have bought the franchise outright from Vivendi, although this seems likely. Although they have yet to issue a press release, it’s something of a no-brainer that a new Homeworld game must be in the pipeline, most likely from acclaimed development house Relic.

Watch out for more news as it comes in.
