Sega Sports drop GameCube support

Sega has announced it will no longer release Sega Sports titles on GameCube, sending out a worrying and depressing message to Nintendo gamers. The third-party publisher’s sports games will, however, continue to release on PS2 and Xbox.

“Nintendo GameCube is a fantastic platform for all genres of games,” stated the company. “Sega’s entertainment properties have sold extremely well on GameCube and as a result we are placing priority and focusing our resources on delivering those titles to the platform moving forward.”

But while games like Sonic and Super Monkey Ball will still be released on the platform, the withdrawal of Sega’s sporting line-up is a significant blow to GameCube, especially in North America, and will be met with frustration and disappointment by GC-owning sports fans.
