PSP Slim & Lite sells over half a million in Japan

The PSP Slim & Lite was launched in Japan just over a fortnight ago and Sony has released figures which show it has sold some 580,000 units since then.

This figure includes the 77,777 limited edition Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII PSPs, which were released a week before the standard edition to celebrate the release of Square-Enix’s new title.

The console also sold an impressive 250,000 units after just a few days on sale, not including the CC: FFVII version. Sony has said these figures eclipse the console’s original launch back in December 2004 (has it really been that long?!).

This must be good news for Sony – no doubt helped along by Square-Enix – but it remains to be seen if the console can maintain these high sales figures for an extended period.
