Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusivity in doubt?

Metal Gear

Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami’s North American and European operations, has expressed doubt over Sony’s US PS3 $100 price cut. He believes that the relatively slight price drop will not boost the console’s sales significantly enough, and he indicated that Konami may have to consider making Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots multiformat in an effort to help recover development costs.

Speaking to Reuters he said:

“I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100.

“I don’t expect a substantial impact… With $500, you can buy a personal computer.

“Since Metal Gear was born on the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps,”

Metal Gear Solid 4 is arguably the most important and significant exclusive the PS3 has. To lose exclusivity on such a title would no doubt be a crushing blow to Sony, particularly when the Xbox 360 and Wii line-ups are looking increasingly strong as months pass by.

We’ll keep you posted on any more information as it comes in.
