Halo 3 earns 300 million US dollars in just one week

Microsoft has recently revealed that global sales of Halo 3 have exceeded 300 million US dollars in its first week of sale.

They also say that sales of the Xbox 360 console have more than doubled in comparison to the weekly average. Live stats reveal that more than 2.7 million people have played the game online in the last week, rounding off to some 40 million hours of play.

Bill Gates spoke about the game:

“Halo is truly a cultural phenomenon, and the launch of Halo 3 is an important milestone for Xbox 360 and for videogames as entertainment and as an art form
“Halo 3 embodies our vision for the future of entertainment, where some of the world’s greatest creative minds will deliver a new generation of interactive storytelling.”

The game also somewhat surprisingly topped the Japanese weekly charts, selling around 59,000 copies. Here in the UK it also achieved an impressive 466,000 sales, sending it to the top of the charts ahead of FIFA 08, Tiger Woods 08, MySims and Juiced 2 respectively.
