Bungie becomes independant developer

Bungie – developer of the Halo series – has become an independent development studio after over seven years of being the flagship studio for Microsoft Game Studios.

The announcement comes in the wake of the record-breaking Halo 3, which has become one of the fastest-selling games ever and earned 300 million dollars in just one week, as we reported here

Although solid details of the arrangement are still somewhat sketchy, Microsoft will retain a financial stake in Bungie and continue to publish their titles, and Bungie will continue to develop games in the Halo series.

Bungie always said they wanted to move onto other projects after the Halo trilogy reached its conclusion, so it’s probably quite safe to expect their next game[s] to be new IPs.
